Little About ‘Musifies’
The word ‘musifies’ doesn’t have a literal meaning in english. I believe that it is a great pleasure and satisfaction to create music out of silence, from a tuneless poem, or a story, or musical instruments or even non-musical instruments. I call this act as ‘to musify’, meaning to convert something totally into music, or to transform feelings emotionally, or even to compel one to feel in a certain way through my creativity. Hence, the name Bhooshan Musifies. I strongly feel that ‘musification’ is an art, which doesn’t have any boundaries, ’cause there are no boundaries to our feelings & I love to & am capable of musifying them.
An Unconventional Immersion in Music
Music! It flows through my blood. That is to say, it took a control over me before I even realised its spark within me. Humming songs with detailed musical phrases, beatboxing (which I didn’t even know then), playing beats on any damn object, started in my childhood. After schooling, I realised that this is not found in every other friend of mine and it is something special. That was the time I actually realised about MUSIC in my blood and started my vocals training. I learned in an ideal way, that is learning music theory with the help of singing. This inspired me to compose & arrange music, think creatively in playback singing, learn more instruments, such as Piano, Guitar, Tabla, Flute, Melodica and still counting…
After graduating as Bachelors in Electronics Engineering, I decided to blend my creative skills with technical background and studied MSc in Acoustics and Music Technology. Then, I never looked back and started grabbing work opportunities, continued learning music theory and I have been building my experience in Music Engineering, as a:
Music Composer & Arranger
Playback Singer
Music & Sound Engineering Educator
About Being a Multi-Instrumentalist:
Being able to play multiple instruments is the blessing of the god. Before I realised about my musical abilities, I remember to feel inferior to someone playing a song on keyboard. I had never played it before, but felt that it would be next to impossible for me. But, at the age of 17, I met a good friend Nikhil, a keyboardist, guitarist and a band member at Sparsh, to introduce me to his big keyboard. I sang along him playing the keyboard. The fascination of the big size keyboard provoked my curiosity to try playing something, but I didn’t have one to try. I downloaded & played a computer simulation of a piano, with ‘a’, ‘s’, ‘d’, ‘f’ and so on to be the musical keys to play. To my surprise, after thinking, and trying for a while, I could play a couple of songs on the software in a couple of minutes. It was then just a matter to think a song clearly in my head and attempt to play it. This was a surprise to my parents as well, who then never though much to buy a practice-size keyboard. Thus it all started…..
Though, I was proud to say that I am a keyboardist for a long period of time, there was something that was restricting me to make the music that was in my mind. I realised it to be the limitation of an instrument, which can be complemented by other. I started craving about playing variety of musical instruments. I could satisfy rhythmic cravings just by playing on a bench, spoons, thighs and you name it. However, it started playing an another melody instrument, when my father gifted me a harmonica and a flute. With little operational studies, I could play musical tunes on them as well. Then I learned harmonium, guitars as well & today I can assure that I have the understanding of majority of musical instruments to be used in my music.
Today when I think about what it was, that let me play multiple instruments, the real answer to it is “the god gift”.. not just to quickly identify the musical notes. but even to feel unsatisfied with not being able to play the real instruments & hear the characteristic sounds. Gradually, I knew that I was not “playing an instrument”, but communicating with it. This communication is much sweeter than “playing” it.
About My Teaching Experience
Being born & brought up in a family of teachers and education supporters, I was always appreciated for my music career, with a strict condition of seeking a thorough education in it. This made me an educated musician and music engineer. I always love to teach music, support and counsel students for music projects and career. With an experience of teaching music since 2013, I have got the skill to educate, guide students as per their capacity and interests.
I believe that, educating and problem solving help to keep one up to date. Along with music production and related research/experiments, I teach music production and sound engineering to students. I support students and intermediate musicians in their projects to give a professional edge to their work.
